Camilla Takes Swipe at British Students

by Maricar on November 1st, 2006

Camilla in Pakistan 3

In comments that have been criticized by the U.K.’s National Union of Students (NUS), the Duchess of Cornwall said that British students spend more time partying than studying. She made these coments while visiting Pakistan’s Fatima Jinnah Women University:

Comparing them with “hardworking” Pakistani students, she said: “English students don’t spend as much time on their studies.

“They’re more interested in partying and having fun.”

Whether or not this is true, or simply “an outdated stereotype of students as serial drinkers” as NUS official Veronica King claimed, I don’t think Camilla should have said what she did. Her responsibilities as the British heir’s wife call for her to represent her country in a positive way, especially while she’s on an official trip, such as this one in Pakistan.

The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall also visited North East England, including Rothbury. They attended a Gala to celebrate the work of The Prince’s Trust. During an Armistice Day Tribute, Prince Charles was caught on-camera looking asleep. Well, I’m not going to suggest that the Prince is getting on in years, but he did celebrate his 58th birthday this month. Finally, Prince Charles’ website got a nice update. We also got peeks at the residences of The Prince of Wales. […]
