Prince William to Take the Royal Lead?

I don’t quite know what to make of this article from All Headline News. Britain’s Queen Elizabeth is reportedly preparing Prince William to take over most of her public duties within three years.
According to Britain’s The People newspaper, William’s name has already started appearing in the Court Circular, the index of the royal family’s engagements, indicating that his involvement will increase when he completes his training at Sandhurst Military Academy in December.
The source added, “It is a clear sign, as his days as an Army cadet come to an end, that his role as the future king will grow significantly.”
William’s father Prince Charles will still succeed the queen as king, but it is thought that his son will be the real “jewel in the royal crown.”
The source said, “Charles has a substantial ego. But even when he succeeds he will have to accept William is the public’s favorite.”
If this report is true, then isn’t it a break from protocol to have Prince William overshadow his own father with regards to official duties? When the time comes, will Prince Charles just become a king in name, but not in function?

Meanwhile, Kate goes about her everyday life, shopping with her mum, throwing out the trash and flying to South Africa to celebrate a friend’s birthday. […]
